The Codeof Professional Conduct and Client Care was established by the Real Estate Agents Act (Professional Conduct and Client Care) Rules 2009. In developing the Code, which came into force on 17 November 2009, we have drawn on best practice in occupational regulation in New Zealand and internationally. The Code sets out the standard of professional conduct and client care required of agents, branch managers and salespersons. It appliesto all aspects of real estate agency work and will be used as a reference point for discipline.

It is important to note that the Code should be read in conjunction with the Real Estate Agents Act 2008 and regulations, as it does not repeat the duties and obligations that are included in the Act and regulations. Making a Complaint through the Real Estate Agents Authority Prospective clients, clients or customers should be aware that they may access the Real Estate Agents Authority complaints process without first using the in-house procedures; and that any use of the in-house procedures does not preclude their making a complaint to the Authority.
